Hi - I am Ann
Ann Abell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with over 20 years of experience in a variety clinical settings w/ children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Ann has specialized training in Trauma/Attachment, Early Childhood, Anxiety, Depression Neuro-diversity and Learning Challenges. Ann enjoys working with various family systems including children in the foster care or adoption process. Ann is LGBTQIA+ affirming supporting clients and their family systems seeking to enhance their skills to manage life stressors through various play based interventions.
Ann's therapeutic approach is best described as a client centered sensory and play-based approach. Interventions used in sessions may include kinestic grounding, sand tray, expressive arts, theraplay and filial therapies. She is a certified Theraplay & MIM Assessment Level I clinician. She also is a board approved LCSW and RPT supervisor in Virginia.
Ann engages clients in therapy with a client directed strengths-based perspective. She believes each client has the ability to heal themselves, overcome their challenges and achieve their personal goals. Ann enjoys working as a partner with parents/guardians to provide support, education and skills to utilize well beyond the therapy room.
